Do you think that reregistration will be easier without PIN numbers? Why or why not?
Did any of you have problems with the old method of registering? If so, what were they and do you believe they will be resolved using the new method?

ReplyDeleteWVU is changing the registration system to remove the PIN numbers. This will save paper, but will probably have technical issues for the first semester it is used. College students should be responsible enough to remember their PIN. Also, the students will be confused at first due to the new system being implemented, after so many years with the old system. Although these problems are terrible, they are not as terrible as Pitt, because Pitt still sucks.
We think pre-registration will be much easier without the PIN numbers. The papers were easily lost or not always available to students when a schedule change became necessary.
ReplyDeleteWe all experienced problems with the old system. Actually, I was stopped from registering for a few classes simply because I lost my PIN. Hopefully, with this new system all of those problems will be alleviated. However, we do feel that the first few times that we use this new system there will be multiple malfunctions.
We are down with the PIN system removal. Firstly, we think that it will make the registration for classes much more convenient. It will make the registration process easier for the advisers because many students are forced to call, or go back in because over time they have forgotten their pins. It will also get rid of the paper, and this will make registration easier, and is good for the environment, and we love the environment. :-)
ReplyDeleteWe think that registration without PIN numbers will be a good idea in the long run, but probably with many errors in the beginning to figure out. Eliminating PINs will require them to reformat the system, which always creates various bugs. It does seem like less of a paper hassle for the students, though.
ReplyDeleteSigning into classes in the old system created many problems for people. Getting all of the paper signed and turned in on time was the biggest issue. With the new method, signing into classes electronically will hopefully eliminate this problem and make it much easier for students and professors.
As a group we believe that even though the removal of the PIN numbers would make registering easier, that does not mean that the modification will be better. For example, if you leave the Star page open, or if someone knows your username/password, then he/she could change anything about the schedule.
ReplyDeleteNone of us experienced any problems in the past with the PIN method, other than the possibility of losing the STAR Course Registration paper...but that just sounds like a personal problem...
There's no way to please everyone.
